A MESSAGE THROUGH TIME BY ANNA CIDDOR (AGES 8+)

When 11-year-old Felix finds a message in a bottle, the adventure of a lifetime follows. He time travels 1,700 years into the past and finds himself, and his older stepsister Zoe, in ancient Roman times. But that’s just the start of their action-packed journey. When they return to their own time, they soon realise they’ve accidentally brought a 12-year-old Roman girl with them. Can they navigate between the two different worlds to get the girl safely back to her family? This fast-paced page turner will have you on the edge of your seat.

HUDA WAS HERE BY H HAYEK (AGES 9+)

When Huda’s dad loses his job as a security officer and has to work interstate, she comes up with a daring plan to help him get his job at home back. She and her brother Akeal go on mischievous outings to wreak havoc in their neighbourhood and force their dad’s bosses to hire him back. But the pair soon find themselves in a mess of their own making, and it’s up to them to get out of it. Huda’s heart-warming and hilarious escapades make for a really fun read.

INFLUENTIAL BY AMARA SAGE (AGES 12+)

17-year-old influencer Almond has grown up in the spotlight, through no choice of her own – her mum has been documenting their family through social media since before she was even born. Almond’s life might look like a dream to her 3.5 million followers, but behind the picture-perfect façade she is seriously struggling with her mental health, and she wants to leave the world of influencing behind – if only it was that simple. A powerful, relevant read that shows the harsh realities of social media.

SO THAT HAPPENED… BUT MAYBE YOU ALREADY KNEW THAT BY TAMI SUSSMAN (AGES 10+)

As Natalie (Nutty to her friends) approaches her 12th birthday, she is preparing for three big life events: having the best bat mitzvah party ever, graduating from primary school, and (hopefully) getting a boyfriend. But soon Nutty realises that more is changing than she expected – including her childhood home and her best friend – and feels like it’s up to her to keep everything from falling apart. A funny and warm novel about friendship, family, and growing up.
