Reader Poem: Lying Eyes

(a poem discussing the topic of insecurity, and the phrase “if you saw yourself how i see you,” commonly said by friends.)

Your eyes are lying to you
As all of our eyes do
We never know what is truly seen
Insecurity makes us feel obscene

However, our eyes only lie to ourselves
They wander to other realms
Of our minds
Committing internal crimes

If our eyes were swapped with an angel’s
There would be substantial changes
In behaviour and emotion
Reflection as pure and clear as the ocean

With the eyes of the angels we see perfection
Within ourselves, there is no correction
To be found, whatsoever, without objection
With the eyes of the angels we see perfection

The angels are those who love for us dearly
They love us merely
For the sake of loving us to our innermost core
Because they see what we ignore
The loving heart beating in your chest
That the angels, with their care, put to rest.
