How to make a cascading card

This simple paper craft folds out into something magical. Follow each step to create a cascading card that’s full of personality that’s perfect for gifts, messages, or just a mindful crafting moment.

MATERIALS NEEDED

INSTRUCTIONS

1 CUT OUT THE PIECES

Carefully cut along the dotted lines on the template to separate Shape A, Shape B, and the 5 Squares.

2 DECORATE YOUR SQUARES

Write heartfelt messages, draw pictures, or decorate the white squares however you like.

3 PREPARE THE FOLDS

Fold Shape B along the white lines where indicated. Crease each fold well and then unfold.

4 ATTACH SHAPE A TO SHAPE B

Take Shape A and wrap its ends around Shape B. Locate the pale pink rectangles on Shape B – this is where you will glue the ends of Shape A. Apply glue to these areas and secure Shape A in place.

5 ATTACH THE SQUARES (CASCADING EFFECT)

Starting with the square end of Shape B, locate the first ‘glue here’ line. Take one of the patterned squares and glue its edge along this line, making sure to line up the edge with the solid black line. Keep the decorated white square facing up.

Move to the next ‘glue here’ line and attach the second square, aligning its top edge with the previous fold crease. Repeat this step for all 5 squares, ensuring they are evenly spaced.

6 FOLD THE END OF SHAPE B

Find the pointed end of Shape B and fold it along the previously made crease at the top edge of the final square, tucking the pointed edge through the loop made in step 4.

7 LABEL THE PULL TAB

With the square flaps facing upwards, write ‘PULL HERE’ on the edges of the triangular end to indicate where to pull.

8 TEST THE CASCADING MOTION

Hold the card loosely between your thumb and index finger where marked (‘Hold loosely here’). Gently pull down on the triangular end to see the cascading effect in action.
