Create a colourful paper ring that flutters with personality. This step-by-step craft is a fun way for teens to express creativity – and a sweet project to make and share with friends.
STEP 1
Cut out one of the rectangles provided on page 67 or Teen Breathe Issue 47. Fold the paper in half lengthways by bringing the two long edges together. Crease well, then unfold.
STEP 2
Fold the paper in half crossways by bringing the two short edges together.
STEP 3
Bring the corners of the folded edge in to meet the vertical crease, creating triangular flaps. Crease well, then unfold.
STEP 4
Fully unfold the paper so it lies flat.
STEP 5
Pinch the left and right diagonal creases made in Step 3. As you do this, bring the bottom edge up to meet the top edge, allowing the paper to collapse into a triangle shape along the creases. Flatten it neatly.
STEP 6
Fold the bottom edge of the top layer up along the dotted guideline, as shown in Figure 6. Flip the paper over and repeat the same fold on the other side.
STEP 7
On the top layer, fold the bottom-left and bottom-right corners up diagonally so their tips meet at the centre vertical crease. Flip the paper over and repeat the same corner folds on the other side.
STEP 8
Fold the top edge of the top layer down along the dotted line shown in Figure 8. Flip the paper over and repeat on the other side. Now rotate the paper so the folded edge is on the bottom.
STEP 9
Fold the top edge of the top layer down along the dotted line shown in Figure 9 so that approximately a third of the triangle underneath is visible. Flip the paper over and repeat the same fold on the other side.
STEP 10
On the top rectangular flap, fold the top-left and top-right corners diagonally inwards along the dotted lines shown in Figure 10, aligning the crease with the edges of the triangle underneath. Flip the paper over and repeat Step 10 on the other side.
STEP 11
Unfold the top-right corner and invert the fold. Bring the right edge of the top layer over to the left towards the centre – fold along the dotted line shown in Figure 11. Flatten out the triangle it revealed.
STEP 12
Repeat on the left side: Unfold the top-left corner and invert the fold. Bring the left edge of the top layer over to the right towards the centre – fold along the dotted line shown in Figure 12. Flatten out the triangle it revealed.
STEP 13
Flip the paper over and repeat Steps 11–12 on the other side.
STEP 14
Curl the bottom edge of the top rectangular layer upwards (curling around your finger if this is easier). Flip over and repeat on the other side.
STEP 15
Turn onto the side. Encouraging the curves you made in Step 14, bring together the ends of the curved rectangles. Tuck one end into the end of the opposite rectangle.
Adjust the ring size by sliding the tucked end further in or out. Gift a matching ring to a friend or share your creation on social media @teenbreatheau
